The quick answer
Homestead combines rebuilding Blissful Retreat, managing production and decorating a home. Begin with the introductory goals and one working production chain, then expand. Bounty Gourds, warehouse stock, facilities and Retainers are different parts of the system, so diagnose the missing part before buying more buildings.

Unlock the Homestead before looking for its management screens
In Qinghe, follow the exploration quests Where Bamboos Remember and then Childhood Reverie. Track their objectives through the final interactions so the Homestead introduction is completed. If the second quest is unavailable, inspect the first quest’s completion and the requirement shown for your character.
The older construction tutorial, Building: One Last Job, teaches building tools. It is a different route from these Homestead management introductions. Being able to place a structure does not by itself show that you have unlocked the Homestead’s production and worker screens.
Choose a management screen by the job you need to do
| Screen or entry | Start here when you want to… |
|---|---|
| Chapter Goals | Find the next guided development objective. |
| Industries | Inspect the facilities and production you intend to operate. |
| Warehouse | Check whether the required inputs or finished products are in stock. |
| Retainers | Inspect a worker’s skills and suitability. |
| Dispatch | Review and change work assignments. |
| Trade for Profit | Read a delivery’s required goods and reward. |
| Qinghe Shop | Inspect purchases for Homestead development. |
Start with a Chapter Goal or one delivery. Then visit only the screens needed to finish it. Trying to optimise every industry before producing one useful item makes the menu feel more complicated than it needs to be.
Know which space you are building in
The Homestead system returns you to Blissful Retreat in Qinghe and also includes Beyond Mundane, a separate personal building space. Placement rules differ by industry and zone. A facility that belongs in a Qinghe industry area should not be assumed to work anywhere you can decorate.
Follow the introduction and Chapter Goals until the basic menus make sense. For your first layout, choose a small functional area rather than designing a large estate before you know which facilities need access and which zones accept them.
The management terms that matter
| Term | Purpose |
|---|---|
| Bounty Gourds | Currency used within Homestead development and shopping. |
| Prosperity | Progress from eligible placed facilities and furnishings. |
| Warehouse | Storage for Homestead production and eligible deposits. |
| Retainers | Workers assigned to suitable tasks. |
| Dispatch | Overview for assigning workers to facilities. |
| Trade for Profit | Delivery tasks that can reward Homestead currency. |
Build one complete production chain
A simple first income chain is ingredients → cooking → catering → Bounty Gourds. Plant or obtain the ingredients for one unlocked dish, select that dish at a stove and assign a suitable cook. Then select what the Inn should serve and assign catering staff. Producing food and selling it are separate assignments.
The Inn connects food production and catering, while the kiln and brewery support other products. Inspect their current capacity before buying duplicates. Building another copy does not automatically multiply every shared facility limit.
| Symptom | Inspect first |
|---|---|
| Ingredients available, no dishes | Recipe selection and cook assignment. |
| Dishes in stock, little income | Catering selection and staffed tables. |
| Cannot add another workstation | The facility’s shared capacity, not just empty floor space. |
| A worker cannot take a job | Their skills, restrictions and current status. |
Assign workers by suitability
Inspect a Retainer’s skills and restrictions before placing them in a job. Use the assignment overview to find idle or mismatched workers. Then review the stock that feeds their work and whether a downstream production step is waiting for their output.
Our recommendation is to improve the worker or facility that limits a chain you already use. Training everyone equally or expanding every industry at once can consume resources without fixing the one shortage that stops your planned delivery.
A short Homestead maintenance routine
- Read the next Chapter Goal or delivery you intend to complete.
- Check warehouse stock against that requirement.
- Review active crops, ingredients and production assignments.
- Correct the limiting step and collect completed output.
- Reserve resources for the next useful improvement before decorating further.
Decoration is also a valid goal in its own right. If you are building for appearance, set aside a budget and test a small section first: entrance, paths, furniture scale and how the camera sees the space. Keep production access understandable so your attractive layout remains comfortable to use.
Practical guides
Produce the ingredient you actually need
- Choose an unlocked dish or delivery and read its exact ingredient requirement.
- Check the Warehouse before planting more.
- At an appropriate farming plot, inspect the available seeds and select the required crop.
- Follow its growth and care prompts, then harvest when ready.
- Check the resulting stock and the next production step.
A planted field is work in progress, not a supply of ready ingredients. If the kitchen is waiting, compare the recipe with harvested stock rather than counting crops still growing outside.
A worked example: crops everywhere, but no income
Suppose your farm looks busy and the Inn is built, yet you see no useful income. Trace one dish through the chain. First, are the required ingredients actually harvested and available? Next, is the dish selected for cooking with a suitable worker? Finally, is the catering step configured and staffed to use the finished food?
Fix the first missing step and let the result reach the next stage before expanding. Adding another field does not solve an unstaffed stove. Adding another stove does not solve a catering assignment that never uses its output.
| Stage | Evidence that it is working |
|---|---|
| Supply | The required ingredient exists in usable stock. |
| Production | The selected recipe has the inputs and worker it needs. |
| Finished goods | The expected dish appears in stock. |
| Catering or delivery | The finished goods are selected for the intended use. |
Choose the next improvement from the bottleneck
If inputs run out, investigate supply. If inputs wait unused, inspect the worker, assignment and facility requirement. If products accumulate without serving your goal, inspect catering or delivery. Only after that should you buy more capacity or train another worker.
Read a Retainer’s restrictions before buying training materials for a role they cannot perform. Read shared facility limits before placing duplicate buildings. Both checks keep an attractive expansion from becoming an expensive structure with no useful job.
Complete the construction quest
Under Another’s Roof teaches pillar placement and house finishing, then returns after real-day waits for a full blacksmith workshop checklist.

Common questions
Why will a Homestead component not place?
Check the allowed industry zone, its claimed area, placement range and facility capacity. An empty-looking spot is not proof that the component is valid there.
Should I buy every facility immediately?
No. Establish a working chain and expand the part you need next. A building without materials or a suitable assignment may add complexity before it adds useful output.
Is unlocking Build Mode the same as starting Homestead?
No. The older construction tutorial, Building: One Last Job, introduces building with Yang Yuan at Halo Peak and requires level 25. Homestead’s business and Retainer progression is a separate introduction; finishing an old construction quest does not by itself complete that system’s Chapter Goals.
