The quick answer

Open Quest to select and track your next objective. Main Chapters, Campaigns, Jianghu Legacies, Wandering Tales, Encounters and Exploration quests serve different purposes. Read the current action and its prerequisites; a marker alone does not explain every trigger or completion step.

Track a quest from the right screen

Open Quest from the main menu. Choose the category, select the exact quest title and read the current objective before using Track. Journal is useful for wider records and activity progress; it is not a substitute for reading the active quest instruction.

  1. Select the story you want to continue.
  2. Read the current action and any named person, item or condition.
  3. Use Track, then inspect the destination on the map.
  4. Travel to a suitable nearby Stone and approach through the intended route.
  5. After the interaction, check whether the objective text advanced or asks for another step.

If you are new and simply want direction, start with Main Chapter. If a feature names a prerequisite quest, track that title instead of assuming every main-story step will unlock it automatically.

Use the category to set expectations

CategoryWhat to expect
Main ChapterThe central story and its progression requirements.
CampaignA distinct story-combat activity; check its entry and replay rules.
Jianghu LegacyA substantial side story or legacy-related chain.
Wandering TaleA local story developed through clues and interactions.
EncounterAn event whose trigger conditions matter.
Exploration questA world activity or introduction associated with exploration.
Worldly AffairsLocal affairs grouped separately in the quest index.

Choose by unlock, interest and location

If a feature names a prerequisite quest, follow that requirement first. Otherwise, use the main story as a steady route and add nearby side content that interests you. A less prominent quest category can still contain an important technique or system introduction.

Read the reward and unlock description when available, but leave room for stories you simply want to experience. You do not need a universal ranking of every quest type. The useful ranking changes when your goal is a combat unlock, regional completion or an evening of story.

Read the actual clue before chasing the icon

Wandering Tales can require finding a sequence of clues rather than following a single continuous marker. Reopen the entry after an interaction and check what changed. If the next clue names an object, person or location, search for that detail instead of repeating the previous step.

For example, the published Echoes in the Shrine route begins through the Verdant Wilds Wayfarer and can be tracked from the Jianghu Legacy entry. That illustrates why finding the correct Quest entry or introduction can matter as much as arriving at the eventual quest location.

When a quest will not trigger

  1. Confirm the exact quest title and regional version of the guide.
  2. Check whether the introduction or preceding quest is complete.
  3. Read any level, time, weather, item or faction condition actually listed.
  4. Inspect the tracked objective for a required action rather than mere proximity.
  5. Check whether the activity requires your personal solo progress.
  6. After completing a step, return to Quest and read the new instruction.

Change one condition at a time. Waiting randomly, teleporting repeatedly and changing modes together makes it impossible to learn what mattered. Record the missing requirement if you cannot satisfy it yet.

Check personal credit in co-op

Campaign Challenges can support shared progression, but the main story and every side quest should not be assumed to follow the same rule. Before organising a long session, confirm that the intended activity supports the party and that each player has the necessary prerequisites.

At the end, inspect Quest for the final conversation, reward claim or interaction. Defeating the last enemy does not prove every quest has completed its closing step. This small check prevents a later unlock from appearing inexplicably unavailable.

There are explicit solo exceptions: the Version 2.1 notes fixed A Flourishing Legacy being completable in co-op. An older recording showing a party completing a quest can therefore reflect behaviour that has since changed, rather than a step you are missing.

Practical guides

Read the action word before chasing the marker

Objective wordingWhat arrival alone may not do
Speak / askYou still need the relevant conversation or dialogue option.
Investigate / searchYou may need to inspect a specific object inside the area.
Observe / followYou may need to watch or follow an interaction sequence.
Use / presentYou may need the named skill or item.
Wait / returnYou need the stated condition, which may be in-game time rather than a real-world reset.
Defeat / completeThere may still be a closing conversation or reward step afterward.

If a guide says “go here” but your current objective says something different, follow your own quest stage first. You may not have completed the introduction that makes the later scene appear.

A worked example: the NPC is there, but the quest will not start

Open the quest entry and compare its prerequisites with your character. If it names an earlier introduction, finish that introduction and its closing dialogue. If it specifies a time, use the Time feature only for that condition. If it requires Solo Mode, leave the incompatible session before trying again.

Change one condition at a time and watch what the entry says. This is more useful than advancing time, teleporting and switching modes repeatedly without knowing which action mattered.

Know when you have actually finished

After the last visible fight, reopen the objective. Look for the final person to speak to, object to inspect or reward to claim. Then inspect the feature that depended on the quest. A completed combat encounter and a completed quest chain can be different states.

If the entry is complete but the desired feature remains locked, read that feature’s remaining requirements. It may need a separate level, introduction or learning item. Keep those conditions separate instead of replaying a finished quest.

Follow a named quest from its first clue

Common questions

Does a quest being labelled optional mean its reward is unimportant?

No. Optional story content can introduce useful systems or abilities. Follow the requirement of the feature you want rather than judging the reward only by the journal category.
